Questions
Questions about roof repair
Short answers, from the jobs we do.
How do I know if I need a repair or a new roof?
Where the water gets in, how far the damage spreads and the wood underneath decide it. If one vent, one flashing or a few tiles are the cause, a repair is enough. If the covering is worn through across the roof, we say replace and show you photos of why.
How long does a repair last?
A repair is only as good as the roof around it. New flashing on a sound roof should last for years; a patch on a worn roof buys time, and we say which one you have.
Why is the stain not under the leak?
Water runs along the underlayment, a rafter or a pipe before it drips. The stain can be several feet from where the water gets in, which is why we look at the whole slope and the attic.
Do I need a permit?
A small repair usually does not. A re-roof often does, and the city or county decides. Your estimate says whether a permit is needed and who pulls it.
How much is the deposit?
California law limits a deposit on a home improvement contract to $1,000 or 10% of the price, whichever is less. We never ask for more, and the payment schedule is in your written contract.
Can I cancel after I sign?
If you sign at home, you may have three business days to cancel. In many states you can also cancel after your insurer denies the claim. Your contract explains your rights.
What if the damage came from a storm and I want to file a claim?
You decide whether to file, and you deal with your insurer. Your deductible is yours to pay. We inspect, photograph and write an itemized estimate you can share with your insurer, and if you ask we can meet your adjuster. We never promise to pay or waive a deductible, and we don't adjust claims for you.
Do you replace whole roofs?
We do small re-roofs: garages, patio covers and additions. For a whole house we tell you honestly whether we are the right firm, and what to ask other roofers.
Do you speak Spanish?
Yes. Raul and Susana speak Spanish and English, Edgar speaks Spanish and some English, and most of the crew speaks Spanish. Tell us which language you want.
When is the best time to fix a roof here?
Before the rains, which usually start in the fall. Dry weather also gives sealants and shingles their best chance to bond. In a wet week we try to book active leaks first.
